Markets and strategy
A skills-based company equipped for competition
In an ever changing industry, it is more important than ever to have a clear plan and direction for the way forward. Although the new competitive situation in the railway sector means that, in the bigger picture, we move from managing to doing, this is nothing new for us.
Since its inception, Mantena has had a strategy which is all about competitiveness and being the preferred provider for
our customers. We have always thought like a company in a competitive situation and said that we must be forward looking, ahead of the competition and at the front of the market.
We have worked over many years to adapt to new markets and meet ever greater demands for efficiency and quality of service. We have focused on continuous improvement processes in the business for a long time, to meet the future requirements and expectations of our customers, our owners and the different markets. This is a focus that will be further strengthened in
the future. We have long had an ambition to cover more of
the value chain by taking greater responsibility for trains and thereby adding value for our customers. In other words, we will no longer just maintain trains according to the operators’ plans and procedures, but take greater overall responsibility for the trains themselves. One example of this is driving trains without passengers or freight so we can pick trains up from where they are and deliver them to where the customer is. Another example is the way in which we are expanding our range of services to include more advanced technical services in an end-to-end management concept, for example.
The aim in covering a larger part of the value chain is to be
the customer’s preferred partner for train management and maintenance. This is how we will enhance our role as the leading player in the Nordic region. We are gearing up for this by systematically analysing the need for new areas of expertise and constantly developing our processes.
Strong competitiveness
We have always known that our competitiveness was and will
be crucial. That is why we have thought like a company with a proactive attitude to technology and new solutions. This proactive attitude and conscious strategy work over many years has made us ready to enter new markets and think globally when we are really exposed to competition.
The past few months have shown that we were right. As maintenance partner to Go-Ahead in Traffic Package 1 South
and to SJ for Öresundståg services in southern Sweden and local services to Copenhagen, Kastrup airport and Malmö, we have seen firm evidence that we are competitive and leading the way in the market.
The work continues
In the future, we will continue to invest broadly, work to win new contracts, enter new markets and cover more and more of the value chain to generate new growth. We will continue to develop our expertise and services to deliver modern maintenance services
