Mantena’s contribution to a sustainable society
Switching from road to rail is an important means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to the “green transformation”. A greater focus on public transport and switching freight from road to rail will reduce the load on the road network and help to reduce the risk of serious accidents. Studies show that one train can replace up to 600 cars1, and one freight train can replace up to 25 trailers2.
Norway is one of the countries in Europe with the fewest fatalities and serious injuries per kilometre in the period 2011-20153. Number of deaths and serious injuries4 in rail and road traffic in 2018:

Emissions of CO2 from transport by rail were reduced by 25 per cent from 2010 to 2017. At the same time, Norwegian railways are carrying more passengers and more freight than ever5.
